What people said of Laus Sapientie Divine:
"The anthem was stupendous" (Corinne Lamus, Chair, Abbey900 Steering Group)
"We really enjoyed singing your pieces and you are a great accompanist. It's been a real pleasure working with you and I hope we will have an opportunity to do things together in the future." (David Ripley, Director, Dodecantus)
In early December 2016 I was invited to help oversee the music programming for Cirencester's 2017 Abbey900 concert series. In addition, I was commissioned to write a choral work to celebrate this wonderful event. The text I used was Alexander Neckam’s commendation of Cirencester at the end of his Laus Sapientie Divine (Praise of Divine Wisdom), when he was Abbot of Cirencester from 1215:
Si suspecta tibi loca sunt solemnia, nostrae
intra saepta domus tutior esse potes.
If you mistrust solemn places,
you can be safer within the walls of our house.
The nationally-acclaimed choir 'Dodecantus' premiered the work on Thursday 2 November at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. Click here to listen to the audio or watch the video below, filmed from the singers' angle!
