Malvern (1989-1999) The Headmaster, Andrew Auster, was a strong supporter of Music and the ArtsWe had a 27-room Music School opened by Yehudi Menuhin ... ... but truly had the BIGGEST spiders in the world .... yuk!!Auden and Britten were the English and Music teachers in the 1930's and lived in the house next to our cottageThere was a wonderful series of concerts by professionals such as Stilgoe and Skellern.. including a performance of 'Facade' with Richard Baker and Lady Walton as Narrators. She had to take my arm as we went into the hall ...in 1991 I was asked to train a group of Russian orphans to sing the songs from Richard Stilgoe's 'Brilliant the Dinosaur'News spread fast and the children soon appeared on Blue Peter..... followed by a concert at Birmingham's Symphony HallIn 1994 I took over the running of The Downs Community ChoirIn 1994 I arranged Verdi's Requiem for 2 grand pianos and timpani, In 1995 I organised a concert called 'An Evening of American Music,' starting with the Navajo .... and finishing with the jazz songs of Cab Calloway in 'Five Guys Named Moe,'.. not forgetting Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue' in the middle - quite a busy programme!Here I am in action in the American concertThe following year I organised a Russian - English comcert with Elgar and Delius in the first half, and Balalaikas from St Petersburg ....... and Stravinksy's 'Symphony of Psalms' in the 2nd.In 1996 I took the Downs Big Band and Choir on a tour to Evian-les-Bains and played our final concert in the Palais Lumiere For some years I was accompanist for Malvern Suzuki Strings and accompanied them in Malvern Prioryin 1999 I passed the interview to run the Music at Beaudesert Park School near Stroud, Glos.
