‘Summertime’ was composed by George Gershwin in 1934 for the 1935 opera ‘Porgy and Bess.’ There have been many different recordings, both as a song as well as instrumental pieces, from Billie Holiday to Fun Boy Three. I think I am being a little more inventive with part-writing here, with close harmonies as well as an up-tempo ‘Be-Bop’ jazz solo middle section.
