Composing - how it started..

I must admit, I don’t find composing easy. I’m not the sort of person to clock on at 0900 in their garden hut and do 4 hours before lunch etc. Maybe being a teacher means there’s loads to do anyway, but when I do compose, I do it with a specific target in mind, such as a Mass for the Catholic school I was starting in, or setting poems from The Great War to remember my Great-Uncle Ralph who died in Passchendaele in 1917.

It’s rare but sometimes I have had a flash of inspiration and a melody has come into my head, the most extreme example being ‘A Playful Piece’ as I watched Brig dash along Dunster Beach at dawn one gorgeous morning.

Please click on Brig (the dog) to go to the gallery of subjects I have tried to ‘shepherd’ my pieces into! Of course, if you need a piece of music writing for any occasion, please do not hesitate to get in touch.. thank you!
